The PP Design interview process

June 9, 2022

“So, what’s the interview process like?”

It starts with “Hello” 👋

Our process will normally start with that first initial chat - nothing too serious. It’s really just a chance to meet great designers face to face. We’ll get to know you and understand what motivates you to create your best work.

What we hope to find out at this stage is the kind of designer you are and see if you’re type of designer we need in the team. Sometimes the role may not be the perfect fit for you just now, but it might be right sometime in the future. So let’s have a chat!

Come & meet the team.

We like to bring people on-site to have a look around our offices & to meet the team in a structured way. Here we’ll understand how you work at the moment, how you’ve worked in the past and where you want your career to go in the future.

For some roles, we’ll divide this into 2 smaller interviews; one with the design team and another with some of our peers in product management & development.

What we hope to learn at this stage is if you’ve had the experience you’ll need to excel in the new role. Working in a big org might be seen as an experiential advantage but likewise working in a smaller team would bring a different perspective on how to approach design. We are always looking for different perspectives to help grow our knowledge and process.

End of level boss meeting - Only joking!

Don’t worry, you won’t have to beat Bowser. At this point, we feel like you’ve got some strong skills and you’ve probably got the talent & knowledge to join the team. We’re hoping that you’ll have learnt as much about us as we have about you. Interviews are a two way process and it’s important that you feel like this is the right move for you.

After this, we’ll bring you back in for one final interview.

Design challenge… What design challenge?

You’ll notice that there’s been no mention of the dreaded Design challenge.😩 That’s because we’ve decided to remove them. We feel that they are an unnecessary evil and one that just gets in the way of finding the best designers.

Instead, we’d like you to present a project to us that you have taken from the very start through to completion. Come in and tell us the full story: Show us the problems that you looked to solve; the process you followed; what you learned from customers; the metrics you improved; and how your customers reacted to it. Equally as important here is what you personally learnt from the project and what you’d do differently the next time.

And that’s really it…
